UFC planning Alexander Gustafsson vs Luke Rockhold light heavyweight bout

With the light heavyweight division being one of the thinnest in the UFC, the promotion is looking to bolster to 205lb division by booking former title challenger Alexander Gustafsson against former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.

According to Combate, the UFC has already set this bout in motion, however, a date or location for this contest has yet to be decided.

The promotion is currently waiting for Rockhold to be cleared by doctors, as the former champion has only recently had stitches removed from an injury last Friday.

Last Thursday, the former two-time UFC light heavyweight title challenger signed a new deal with the UFC.

The Swede’s manager told MMAFighting the following:

“What I can tell you is this is the most lucrative deal of Alex’s career,” Safapour said. “And one of the best deals in the space. Both the UFC and Alex are happy. It is a good deal for everyone.”

Gustafsson is riding a two-fight winning streak with wins over Jan Błachowicz and Glover Teixeira while Rockhold is coming off a third-round TKO loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 221 which was for the interim middleweight title.
