UFC Fight Night 121: Full Fight Card and Preview

The UFC returns this weekend for UFC Fight Night 121 which will be held on 19 November 2017 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

The event will be the fifth that the UFC has hosted in Sydney, and first since UFC Fight Night 55 in November 2014.

Main Event

The original main event was supposed to feature Mark Hunt against Marcin Tybura, however, Hunt was removed from the bout due to “medical concerns”. As a result, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabrício Werdum was chosen as his replacement.

After losing the heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic, Werdum rebounded by earning a unanimous decision over Travis Browne before dropping a majority decision to Alistair Overeem at UFC 213.

In his most recent bout, he was scheduled to face Derrick Lewis at UFC 216, however, Lewis pulled out of the bout on the morning of the fight due to injury. Walt Harris, who was also competing on the card stepped up to face Werdum on one-days notice. Werdum won the fight via first-round submission.

Following a unanimous decision loss to Timothy Johnson, Tybura has won three straight. TKO wins over Viktor Pešta and Luis Henrique were followed by a unanimous decision win over Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night 111.

Co-Main Event

Bec Rawlings was originally scheduled to compete against Joanne Calderwood in the co-main event, however, Calderwood had to withdraw from the event due to “undisclosed reasons”. She was replaced by promotional newcomer Jessy Rose-Clark.

Following back-to-back losses to Pam Sorenson at Invicta FC 20 and Sarah Kaufman and Battlefield Fighting Championships, Rose-Clark turned things around in her last bout, earning a split decision win over Carina Damm at Titan FC 45. She was currently booked to meet Vanessa Porto at Invicta FC 26, however, she now fights Bec Rawlings at this event on short notice.

Following back-to-back wins over Lisa Ellis and Seo Hee Ham, Rawlings has also suffered back-to-back losses. A KO loss to Paige VanZant at UFC on Fox: Maia vs. Condit was followed by a unanimous decision loss to Tecia Torres at UFC Fight Night: Bermudez vs. Korean Zombie, a bout in which Rawlings missed weight.

Other Main Card Bouts

Also featured on the main card are a pair of welterweight bouts between Tim Means vs. Belal Muhammad and Jake Matthews vs. Bojan Veličković, a middleweight contest featuring Elias Theodorou vs. Dan Kelly while a catchweight bout pitting Alexander Volkanovski and short notice replacement and UFC debutant, Shane Young.

Preliminary Card Match-Ups

Headlining the Fox Sports 1 preliminary card is a flyweight bout featuring Ryan Benoit and Ashkan Mokhtarian while Damien Brown vs. Frank Camacho will feature as the first bout on the prelim card in a welterweight fight.
