Dana White: UFC working on Georges St-Pierre vs Nate Diaz at lightweight

The UFC is working on a lightweight bout pitting former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre vs Nate Diaz according to UFC President Dana White.

Appearing on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, White stated that the promotion has been offering Nate Diaz fights for over a year.

‘We have been offereing Nate Diaz fights’ White stated. ‘In his contract, I have to give him three fighters a year, per the contract, I have to give him three fights a year. If I fail to do that then I have to pay him, but they (Nate and brother Nick) keep turning down the fights.’

Following on from that statement though, White dropped some news that they are looking at making Georges St-Pierre vs. Nate Diaz at lightweight.

‘We are currently working on Georges St-Pierre vs Nate Diaz is what we are currently looking at, and the fight will be at 155lbs’.

White also stated that in a ‘perfect’ world, the bout would be the co-main event of the upcoming UFC 227 fight card.

UFC 227 will be held on August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout rematch between current champion TJ Dillashaw and former champion Cody Garbrandt.
