Before he fights on Dana White’s Tuesday night contender series on August 15 on UFC Fight Pass, Adrian Diaz sits down with MMA Mad.
How did this opportunity come together?
After my last fight, my manager was talking with me about getting into the UFC. They presented some opportunities and one of them was the Contender series. I didn’t really know what it was at the time, so he had to explain it to me. I was a little down because obviously, I want the UFC contract – I feel like I deserve to be there. But when they offered this opportunity – it’s going to give me a lot of exposure – being on the UFC Fight Hub and how they’re advertising these fights, it could be a real blessing for me.
How big of an opportunity is this for you?
It’s a huge opportunity for me. Obviously, my first goal was to get into the WCC, but when the lighter weights were included in the UFC – that became my ultimate goal. That’s where I want to be. It’s a big opportunity.
What should Dana White expect out of you?
A fight. When a lot of guys get into the cage, they don’t want to fight. They just want the lights, the cameras, the glamor. I’m in there to fight, man. That’s all I like to do. So you can expect a good show from me.
How will it feel to get a UFC contract after this?
It’s going to feel awesome. It’s a goal I’ve had for years and it’s going to feel great, man. For all of the sacrifices, all of the B.S. I’ve had to deal with, all of the ups and downs, it’s going to be awesome.
