Michael Chandler vs. Brent Primus lightweight title fight set for Bellator 180

A lightweight title bout has been added to Bellator’s upcoming PPV card in New York as Michael Chandler will defend his lightweight title against Brent Primus at Bellator 180.

Bellator 180 will take place on June 24 at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The event will be headlined by Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva while the co-main event features the Bellator debut of Fedor Emelianenko against Matt Mitrione

Ariel Helwani announced the bout on MMAFighting.com.

Following a three-fight losing skid, Chandler (16-3 MMA) has won four straight including a KO win over Patricky Freire at Bellator 157: Dynamite 2 to win the title and most recently a split decision win over former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson at Bellator 165 in his first title defence.

Primus (7-0) is coming off a split decision win over Gleristone Santos at Bellator 153 – Koreshkov vs. Henderson in April 2016 and will be coming into this bout following a 14-month layoff.
