McGregor’s coach reacts to 155lbs interim title between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson at UFC 209

Late last night, the UFC officially announced the co-main event of UFC 209 to be an interim UFC Lightweight championship bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and The Ultimate Fighter: Team Lesnar vs. Team dos Santos welterweight winner Tony Ferguson.

UFC 209: Woodley vs. Thompson 2 will be held on March 4, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.

Not everyone is happy, however, with the UFC’s decision to award this contest ‘interim’ status. The coach of the current UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor is one of those people.

John Kavanagh, the head coach at SBG Ireland posted the following on Friday morning.

McGregor’s teammate, Artem Lobov also joked on twitter on Friday morning about the UFC 209 booking.

McGregor, won the UFC lightweight title just two months ago, finishing then champion Eddie Alvarez via second-round KO to become the first UFC fighter to hold two separate UFC titles in two divisions simultaneously.
