[OFFICIAL] Velasquez out of UFC 207 with medical issues, bout with Werdum off

It is not exactly the present that former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez asked for Christmas this year.

However, Brett Okamoto is reporting that Velasquez has been pulled from UFC 207 next week for medical reasons.

Following this report from Okamoto, Velasquez tweeted that he was just cleared by the doctor 30 minutes ago and then he conferenced the Nevada Athletic Commission and spoke to them and recleared me with them.

Then Brett Okamoto reached out the NSAC and they confirmed on record that Velasquez has been pulled from the fight.

Here is the official statement from the NSAC via Brett Okamoto and ESPN.

“Based on medical records, interviews and the best judgment of Chairman Anthony Marnell, attorney general J. Brin Gibson, the executive director’s office and our physicians, in an effort to protect the health and safety of the athletes, it’s been determined Cain Velasquez is unfit to fight,” the NSAC said in a statement.

“The financial incentive for fighters to compete is strongly compelling, and it is the responsibility and obligation of this commission to intervene when excessive risks are evident,” the NSAC said. “It’s obvious Mr. Velasquez is physically compromised and competing would place him in significant physical risk.”
