A middleweight contest between Kelvin Gastelum and Vitor Belfort has been added to the UFC’s return to Fortaleza.
UFC Fight Night 107 takes place on March 11th, 2017, at the Centro de Formação Olímpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Gastelum (13-2 MMA) won The Ultimate Fighter 17 Middleweight tournament back in 2013. Since then, he has gone 8-2 inside the octagon, however missing weight three times at welterweight has forced Gastelum up to the middleweight division.
Gastelum was expected to face Donald Cerrone on November 12, 2016 at UFC 205. However on the day of the weigh-ins, Gastelum did not make an attempt to formally weigh in as he was well over the 171 lbs limit for the fight and the bout was scrapped. UFC President Dana White then stated that he will “never let him fight at 170 again”.
Gastelum was quickly rescheduled and faced Tim Kennedy in a middleweight bout on December 10, 2016 at UFC 206, a bout he won via TKO in the third round.
Belfort (25-13 MMA) is on a two-fight losing streak following a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus win after knocking out Dan Henderson at UFC Fight Night 77 in São Paulo, Brazil. Since that win, Belfort has lost twice by TKO, to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi.
No other fights have been announced for this event at the time of writing.
