Valor Fights boss Tim Loy talks Valor Fights 39 on Friday night

Before Valor Fights 39 goes down Friday night in Knoxville, Tenn., LIVE on FloCombat, Valor Fights leading man Tim Loy spoke with MMA Mad.

Q: If someone told you when you were growing up that you’d someday be promoting cage fights, would you have believed them?

A: (Laughs) That’s hard to say, actually, but probably not, honestly. But I was a huge pro wrestling fan growing up. If I was a kid growing up today, with MMA being what it is, I guess that wouldn’t be too far out of the question.

Q: To what do you attribute the success of Valor Fights?

A: The No. 1 attribute is our team. I always like to say we’ve got to keep our aces in their places (laughs). We’ve got a lot of aces and everyone knows their place. We’ve done so many events, and we’ve gotten so much great experience along the way; our team is definitely our advantage. We’ve got so many guys who know what they’re doing, and they’re self-operating.

Q: What’s the biggest hurdle you’ve had to overcome?

A: One of the biggest ones is learning to put the business first. I have a hard time telling people no, and for years that was difficult for me. It is a balancing act, but ultimately we’ve struck that balance, and that’s when things started lifting off for us.

Q: Which fight are you most looking forward to watching Friday?

A: I’ve gotta say the main event, Sid Wheeler defending his middleweight title versus Brendan Allen. It’s two phenom prospects; both guys are very similar. They’re the same age, they have the same record, and they’re the phenomenal prospect coming out of their respective region. Two very, very hungry guys who have designs on making it to the UFC, and all the way to the top. We get to see them early. Somebody is getting catapulted.

Q: Which fight is flying under the radar?

A: Our co-main event, actually. Both guys are established fighters, but they haven’t fought for Valor Fights yet. Our fans might not be familiar with them, but those guys are both very legit flyweight prospects. Both guys are just knocking at the door of the UFC too. Jason King is another fighter who’s really starting to shine, and so are Dre Miley and Brandon Webb.
