Around a year ago, the talk of a super fight between boxing king Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor all seemed a bit artificial.
However, this week, McGregor’s coach stated in an interview this week that there is a strong chance a super-fight against Mayweather will happen “next year”.
McGregor’s coach Kavanagh has confirmed that the pair are in talks for the potential boxing fight, and 2017 could be the year we see the two clash.
Kavanagh said: “If the odds were good enough, I’d put a few quid on it for next year.
“I’m not breaking any news saying that there are conversations going back and forth for the last year or so.”
And while clearly, it’s a fight that interests Team McGregor, Kavanagh believes there’s plenty of interest from the other side of the table, too.
“He’s 49-0. I’m sure he wants that 50th fight. It’s a nice number.”
“Right now, ask the average guy on the street, who do you want to see Mayweather fight, what fight’s going to get the most interest, and it would be a super fight with Conor.”
“It’s one of the many options that are there for Conor, so let’s see how the next couple of weeks go.”
