Ever since Conor McGregor won the UFC featherweight title, the division has effectively been on hold.
Now, the UFC has rectified the situation by stripping the double UFC champion of his featherweight title.
Jose Aldo, the current UFC interim featherweight champion who won the title at UFC 200 against Frankie Edgar has been promoted to UFC featherweight champion.
Aldo lost the title to McGregor at UFC 194 via 13-second KO.
The interim title will now be contested at UFC 206, and the winner will fight Aldo at a later date to unify the belts.
Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis which has been promoted to the UFC 206 main event following the injury to Daniel Cormier, will now fight to become the UFC interim featherweight champion.
McGregor has not yet responded on social media to the news.
