Registration opens today for the 2016 IMMAF European Open Championships. Hosted by the Czech Mixed Martial Arts Association (MMAA), the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation tournament spans 5 days from 22 to 26 November in Czech Republic, at the Arena of Sparta in Prague.
The 2016 IMMAF European Open Championships welcomes Amateur MMA competitors from member countries as selected by their national, IMMAF affiliated federation. 210 athletes competed at the recent 2016 IMMAF World Championships at UFC International Fight Week in Las Vegas; and with its dynamic European membership, the IMMAF European Open is expected to at least match the World Championships in numbers. The tournament will see 2015’s European medallists returning to defend or surpass last year’s accolades.
The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the IMMAF Amateur MMA Rules (3×3 mins). All IMMAF participants must pass medical examinations and tests for blood borne viruses as part of the clearance process to compete, independently vetted by medical organisation, Safe MMA. Athletes will additionally be subject to random Anti-doping testing in compliance with World Anti-doping criteria, under the consultation of Sporting Integrity.
Weight classes run from Flyweight (125lbs/ 56.7kgs) to Super Heavyweight (+265 lbs /+120.2kgs) for men; and Strawweight (115lbs /52.1kgs) to Lightweight: (155 lbs /70.3 kg) for women. There is a limit of 32 participants per weight class, and a federation may enter a maximum of 2 athletes into each category. The top 28 ranked countries according to the IMMAF World Ranking List* are granted a priority window to enter one (1) athlete in each weight division before Monday 12th October. After this, the brackets will be opened up to applications from all national federations (on a first-come first-serve basis), with Monday 24th October the deadline date for entry.
