Following a successful debut on July 8 on BT Sport, Cage Warriors can today confirm that its CWFC events will continue to be televised by the British broadcaster.
BT Sport will show CWFC 78 in Liverpool on September 10 and will then cover the remaining Cage Warrior events going forward. This partnership means that CWFC will join Premier League football, Aviva Premiership Rugby and the best of European football on BT Sport from now on. BT Sport is already home to the UFC, broadcasting the promotion’s events since 2013, making it the home of MMA in the UK.
CWFC is one of the most respected regional MMA promotions in the world, discovering and nurturing some of the biggest names in MMA today. Renowned as a proving ground for European talent, three of the current UFC champions, Englishman Michael Bisping, Polish star Joanna Jedrzeczyk and the sport’s biggest name Irishman Conor McGregor all honed their skills in CWFC before fighting for the UFC.
BT Sport viewers can now witness the birth of MMA’s stars of tomorrow and watch them compete for world titles as witnessed at CWFC 77 when two belts were won by fast emerging British stars. Chris Fishgold will be defending his lightweight title in front of his hometown fans in Liverpool at CWFC 78 on September 10th, while the following month middleweight Jack Marshman returns to Wales to defend his belt. Chris and Jack are among a number of CWFC stars tipped to break into the UFC in the near future.
Commenting on the partnership CEO Casimir Knight said, “We’re committed to creating the best possible platform for fighters and fight fans – and this long-term partnership with BT Sport achieves that. We will give Europe’s rising MMA stars regular fights on the broadcast home of MMA. This is also a significant step for the CWFC brand, as it will increase our exposure to a mainstream sporting audience as we sit shoulder to shoulder with other leading rights holders. By working with respected broadcast partners like BT Sport, together we can do our bit to grow the sport of MMA.”
Simon Green, head of BT Sport said “I’m sure fight fans will be thrilled with more primetime MMA action on BT Sport so soon after the news that we will continue to be the home of the UFC. I’m happy to welcome the CWFC to BT Sport”.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring a conversation with Cortney Casey.
