The UFC has announced the first three fights for UFC Fight Night 96 card to be held in Portland.
A flyweight bout between Louis Smolka and Sergio Pettis has been added to the card along with a heavyweight bout between Walt Harris and Shamil Abdurakhimov and a middleweight bout between Tamdan McCrory and Nate Marquardt. Oregan Live announced the bouts.
UFC Fight Night 96 will be held on October 1, 2016, at Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The event will be the second that the organization hosted in Portland, with the first being UFC 102 in August 2009.
Smolka (11-1 MMA) is riding a four-fight winning streak since a split decision loss to Chris Cariaso at UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. Two ‘Performance of the Night’ TKO wins over Richie Vaculik and most recently Ben Nguyen have been sandwiched by a decision win over Neil Seery and a submission win over Paddy Holohan.
Pettis (14-2 MMA) is riding a two-fight winning streak earning unanimous decision wins over Chris Cariaso and most recently Chris Kelades at UFC 197.
Harris (8-4 MMA) rebounded nicely from a TKO loss to Soa Palelei at UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs. Bisping by earning a TKO win of his own against Cody East at UFC 197.
Abdurakhimov (16-3 MMA) also rebounded from a TKO loss to Timothy Johnson at UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas by earning a unanimous decision win against Anthony Hamilton at UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs. Cowboy.
McCrory (14-4 MMA) had a three-fight winning streak snapped last time out, losing Krzysztof Jotko via KO at UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Thompson in July. Prior to the loss, McCrory submitted Josh Samman at UFC on Fox: dos Anjos vs. Cerrone 2.
Marquardt (34-16-2 MMA) has been on a tough run recently going 2-6 in his last eight and is coming off a KO loss to Thiago Santos at UFC 198.
