Cain Velasquez put on a vintage performance against heavyweight contender Travis Browne in the opening bout of UFC 200, picking up the stoppage victory with mere seconds remaining in the first round.
UFC 200 is being held tonight (July 9, 2016) at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.
The event will be the first that the organization has hosted at T-Mobile Arena, which opened in April 2016. It takes place during the UFC’s annual International Fight Week and marks the second time the UFC has held host three events in consecutive days.
Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne took place on the main card which aired on PPV.
And the main card of UFC 200 is underway! Cain pressed forward, of course, but ate an early shot from Browne. Undeterred, Cain keeps coming forward and finally gets Browne in a clinch on the cage. Browne pushed away before Cain could do much damage. Browne was circling, but Cain kept cutting him off. he unleashed a big combo on Browne against the cage and had him trouble with around two minutes to go. Cain was relentless with the GnP, as always, and forced Browne to briefly open himself up for a neck crank. Velasquez took a wrestling position and kept waling away. Travis actually made it back to his feet and exchanged with the former champ, but clearly came up on the short end and collapsed again. Velasquez went for the kill and got the stoppage with only seconds left!
The finish came at 4:57 of the first round.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
