Brendan Loughnane vs Eden Newton confirmed for lightweight bout at Victoria Warehouse on 13 August 2016

Lightweight MMA champion Brendan Loughnane, 26, has confirmed his next fight: a Manchester grudge match versus Eden Newton.

The lightweight fight fixture is set to take place at the hotly anticipated MMA event, on 13th August 2016, at Victoria Warehouse, Manchester.

BrendanVEden-1Fan favourite and athlete, Loughnane, is currently ranked sixth in Europe at both lightweight and featherweight with 11 wins in 13 contests, and remains the highest ranked athlete at both weights outside of deals with MMA promotion companies.

The former FCC Lightweight Champion and UFC athlete’s last victory was an emphatic win versus former UFC athlete Dave Lee at FCC15, in which Loughnane sent Lee to the canvas three times before the bout was stopped via KO in the first round.

Eden Newton, a Manchester based lightweight MMA athlete has a fight record of nine wins and four losses. Newton’s appearance at Victoria Warehouse will be his first since May 2016, at UCC.

Brendan Loughnane, said: “I’m looking forward to fighting in my home city again – I’ve taken this fight whilst we finalise details of my next big bout. It will be great to put an end to Eden and his boasts that he can beat me. He has proven slippery to pin down but I’m confident I can knock him out in the octagon. There is only so many times someone can call you out before you have to take the fight and put an end to their claims.”

“I’m confident I can end him quickly in the octagon and know I can put on a great show for the home fans. He is just a small hurdle on my way to bigger opponents. I hope Eden and the fans get the fight they desperately want to see. This fight has been almost 10 years in the making.”

Loughnane has fought in five countries and is billed as one of the UK’s most explosive striking MMA fighters. He was also a significant member of Dominick Cruz’ Alliance Training Camp; the fight team that guided Cruz to a UFC Bantamweight Championship victory. Brendan was granted a release from his BAMMA contract in 2015, following a controversial split judge’s decision against Lightweight Champion Tom Duquesnoy.

Further details, fixtures and ticket information on the Victoria Warehouse MMA event are due to be announced over the coming weeks.
