As soon as Conor McGregor was submitted by Nate Diaz at UFC 196 three months ago, his grappling game has been mocked by many in the MMA community due to his trash talk before stating that he would submit Diaz if their bout would end up on the mat.
It looks as though McGregor has taken note of the clear gap in jiu-jitsu skills between himself and Diaz in the lead up to their rematch at UFC 202 and hired the help of jiu-jitsu ace Dillon Danis. The two posed for a photo following the training session.
Dillon Danis is not one of the biggest names in the world of jiu-jitsu however, a black belt under the legendary Marcelo Garcia, Danis submitted grappling ace Joe Lauzon at Metamoris 6 last year.
In a statement to FloGrappling, Danis spoke of his excitement at the opportunity to train with McGregor:
“We’ve been in contact for a while and the time was just right. He’s one of my idols and you don’t pass up opportunities like this. He has one of the greatest minds and skillsets ever in the sport.”
A lot of McGregor’s training footage has appeared online during this camp of McGregor boxing with Chris van Heerden in a California gym and has also been seen sparring with Irish boxer Patrick Hyland. (See below)
It looks as though McGregor is leaving no stone unturned in trying to revenge his only UFC loss to date when it comes to his August 20th rematch date.
