[Fight Week] CES MMA 36: Fight Card and Video Preview

CES MMA 36 takes place this weekend (June 10) at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I.

CES MMA World Lightweight Champion Luis “Rockstar” Felix and Ryan Sanders will meet again at CES MMA 36.

The two fast-paced 155-pound contenders met in a catchweight, non-title match at #CES32 in January. A cringe-inducing leg injury from fan-favorite Felix ended the bout midway through the second round.

Both fighters can’t wait to put that night behind them — and they’ll have the opportunity to do just that on June 10.

“That was one of the worst nights of my career. I thought I broke my leg and I froze up,” said Felix, who’s making his 12th trip to the CES MMA cage. “But I’m still the champion, I’m ready to defend my title, and I’m excited to move forward in my career — this is the biggest fight of my life, and I’m ready for it.”

Adds Sanders, who’s looking for his 10th stoppage win: “I compare that fight to kissing your sister. It was an entertaining fight and I feel like I was winning it, for sure, but the way it ended sucks. But (expletive) happens. The past is the past. Now I get an opportunity to prove to everybody that it wasn’t a fluke. I’m going to win again.”

The co-main features CES MMA and Bellator veteran Matt Bessette taking on Brazilian Jairo Soares.

Hartford’s Matt Bessette prides himself on always being ready to fight. So when asked if he wanted in on CES MMA 36, “The Mangler” said let’s roll.

“The Mangler” admittedly doesn’t know a whole lot about his opponent yet, aside from the fact that he’s a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. But he isn’t concerned about what Soares brings to the table.

“At this point in my career, it doesn’t matter who I’m fighting. My job is the same each and every time. Go out there and stop my opponent by any means necessary. I’m sure my opponent is well-versed in all aspects of the game — you have to be to get to this stage — but I’m going to go out there and do everything I can to beat him and put on a show,” said Bessette, who’s hunting for his fourth straight stoppage win.

Soares, on the other hand, is pretty familiar with Bessette — though not very impressed.

“He’s an athlete with no explosion and he won’t endure the intense pace we put on him. I don’t find him dangerous,” stated Soares, who’s fought as a professional for nearly 10 years. “I have more speed, knockout power, and I’m going to end this fight with a first-round submission or a knockout.”
