A meeting between the UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC brass is scheduled to take place this evening in Los Angeles per UFC president Dana White.
“Lorenzo and I are having dinner with Conor McGregor,” White today told ESPN.” “So tonight at 10 p.m., I’ll have a lot more answers on the Conor McGregor situation.”
McGregor was scheduled to face Nate Diaz at UFC 200 in a rematch of their UFC 196 contest which Diaz won via submission in the second round. However, McGregor was not willing to interrupt him training schedule to fly to Las Vegas to promote the contest and was subsequently removed from the card.
Following the removal from the card, McGregor suddenly tweeted his retirement from competition. Soon after however, McGregor un-retired and asked the UFC to have his schedule lightened in the lead up to fights so he could focus on training and was asked to be put back on UFC 200 however the UFC reufesed to budge, booking Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 as the main event at UFC 200 replacing Diaz vs. McGregor 2.
When asked about McGregor on ESPN’s SportsCenter, the UFC president said his relationship with the Irish star is great, however there is no chance the the Dublin native will fight on UFC 200.
“He will not be on UFC 200,” White said. “Not at all. That ship sailed. But we’ve put that behind us, and we’re in a good place with Conor, and we’re looking to make his next fight. We should have that done tonight.”
