MMA Mad’s Top 5 Performances — April Edition

April saw several high level events occur within its 30 day time frame.  Here are MMA Mad’s 5 most impressive performances in that span.

Edson Barboza vs Anthony Pettis

#5.  Edson Barboza def. Anthony Pettis via unanimous decision – UFC 197

Edson Barboza has been viewed by the majority of fans as a future contender since the day he debuted in the UFC in 2010, but his path to fulfilling that potential has often been sidetracked by unexpected setbacks.  Each time  his competition was elevated to the next level, Barboza was defeated and forced to return to attempting to prove his worthiness to compete at the top of the lightweight division.

This changed with his victory over former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.  The performance he provided against Pettis was a beautiful display of a dangerous striking game that frustrated and battered his opponent for the entirety of their contest.  Even though the Brazilian had put up a valiant effort in defeat against Tony Ferguson that indicated he was already close to being considered a legitimate threat to the championship, his performance against Pettis proved it.  After nearly 6 years of chasing expectations in the UFC, Barboza has finally climbed within reach of a shot at the gold.
