Mike Wilkinson announced on Monday night on the MMA Hour that he has been released from the UFC.
Following a 2-2 stint with the UFC, Wilkinson (9-2 MMA) will now have to find a new place to call home after being released from the UFC.
Wilkinson entered the UFC with a perfect professional record of 8-0 and started his UFC run with a unanimous decision win over fellow Englishman Brendan Loughnane at UFC on FX 6 in Queensland, Australia.
His next bout was against Rony Jason where he would enter enemy territory at UFC on Fuel TV: Nogueira vs. Werdum in Fortaleza, Brazil. Wilkinson would go onto to lose via submission (triangle choke) in the first round. Rebounding nicely however, Wilkinson earned a highlight reel KO over Niklas Bäckström at UFC Fight Night 53, again in enemy territory in Backstrom’s home country of Sweden. The win would also secure Wilkinson his first ever ‘Performance of the Night’ post fight bonus.
However in his most recent bout under the ZUFFA banner, Wilkinson dropped a unanimous decision to Finnish prospect Makwan Amirkhani earlier this year in London.
