A welterweight fight between Johny Hendricks and Kelvin Gastelum is in the works for the UFC 200 per Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com.
UFC 200 will be held on July 9, 2016 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be the first that the organisation has hosted at the new T-Mobile Arena which is slated to open in April 2016.
Hendricks (17-4 MMA) has gone 1-1 since losing the UFC welterweight title to Robbie Lawler at UFC 181. A wrestling based unanimous decision win over Matt Brown was followed up by a devastating TKO loss to Stephen Thompson last time out at UFC Fight Night 82 in February. Hendricks is currently ranked #5 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
Gastelum (11-2 MMA) is also 1-2 in his last three fights. A TKO win over Nate Marquardt has been sandwiched by two close split decision losses to Tyron Woodley and Neil Magny most recently at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale. Gastelum, the Ultimate Fighters season 17 winner is currently ranked #12 in the UFC’s welterweight rankings.
With this potential addition, UFC 200 currently looks like this:
