Shay Walsh vs. Tom Duquesnoy set to headline BAMMA 25 in Birmingham

BAMMA 25 just gets better and better. Sherdog has announced that the main event for the promotions return to Birmingham is a title fight between bantamweight champion Shay Walsh and current featherweight king Tom Duquesnoy.

BAMMA 25 is set to take place on 14 May, 2016 at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, England.

Walsh (14-3 MMA) has looked untouchable since entering the BAMMA cage for the first time in 2014. Unanimous decision wins over James Saville and Paul Reed was followed up with a third round TKO over Gaz Pilot at BAMMA 21 earning Walsh a title shot against champion Ed Arthur at BAMMA 23. Walsh would go onto dominate Arthur, earning the 135lb crown via unanimous decision at BAMMA 23 in Birmingham.

“Big fight for BAMMA and for me. Champion v Champion. I will be ready to defend my crown, I’m not going to let anyone take this away from me on the biggest and best MMA show in Europe!” Shay Walsh (BAMMA Bantamweight Champion)

Duquesnoy (12-1 MMA) the current featherweight champion for BAMMA, recently dropped down to bantamweight in his most recent bout against Damien Rooney at BAMMA 24 in Dublin, Ireland. The ‘Firekid’ looked incredible at his new weight-class, finishing Rooney with a vicious one punch KO to earn a title shot at Walsh at BAMMA 25.

“ I am pleased to see that work pays.  My aim is to be the best, in the categories in which I fight & win the belts. It is very interesting and the level of competitiveness is exciting because I meet the best in each weight category.

I think Shay is a brave and tough opponent, always well prepared. He has a well-completed style. I think we will have a super fight.  Thanks for the support from the very beginning, the English public has always been respectful even though I’m not local. My first fight was at BAMMA 14 in Birmingham and I think it’s great to have the opportunity to unify the two belts where I started.

I have been with Bamma for over two years now and I am pleased of our collaboration, we have evolved in the same direction and are still growing.  I’m sure BAMMA 25 is going to be one of the best of the year, a lot of title fights with champions who will be at 100% of their abilities and ready to defend their title. I’m looking forward to it very much!“ – Tom DuQuesnoy (BAMMA Featherweight Champion)
