Renan Barao is officially moving up to 145lbs for the first time in the UFC. Barao will face veteran Jeremy Stephens in his first contest at featherweight. Combate reported the news.
Following two losses to former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, Barao is making the move up a weight class after 10 fights at bantamweight. Barao’s last victory came against Mitch Gagnon in a ‘Performance of the Night’ submission win. This win was sandwiched with two TKO losses to Dillashaw.
Stephens (24-12 MMA) has only tasted victory once in his last four outings in the UFC. A TKO win over Dennis Bermudez at UFC 189 halted a two fight losing skid to Cub Swanson and Charles Oliveira. Stephens was last seen in the octagon at UFC 194, losing a unanimous decision to Max Holloway. Stephens responded to the match-up on twitter and seems confident.
