CES MMA 34 is scheduled for April 1st, at Foxwoods Resort Casino and is to be headlined by a Welterweight Championship bout between Chris Curtis and Nah-Shon Burrell.
The main card is starting to take shape, as Rodrigo Almeida and Johnny Campbell have been slotted for an exciting bantamweight bout between two of the region’s best.
Almeida was riding a seven fight sinstreak between 2010 and 2014, before dropping a close split decision to Bruce Boyington at WSOF 24 last October. Now, he’ll be looking to prove that the loss was an anomaly, and get back to making his case as New England’s best bantamweight.
Standing in his way is Johnny Campbell, a tough Boston native who went on win streak of his own before losing back-to-back fights in April and November of 2015. The six-fight win streak included victories over dangerous contenders Billy Giovanella and Kody Nordby. Excluding a loss to Matt Doherty in 2013, Campbell had won eight out of nine fights in that stretch. He’ll be looking to find that rhythm again on April 1st, beginning with a victory over Rodrigo Almeida.
Johnny Campbell and Rodrigo Almeida exchange heated words ahead of the April 1st matchup at CES MMA XXXIV:
Rodrigo is as one-dimensional as they come. I will stick to my game plan and punish him for the whole fight. He’s not strong mentally. No matter how big he is, I know he can’t finish me because he doesn’t have it in his mind to finish me.
Every single second, I’m going to remind him that he can’t finish me. There are three ways to win a MMA fight. You knock the guy out, you submit him or the judges decide you win. I see myself winning every single way, but all I need is one big shot to knock him out.
I’m going to kick Johnny’s ass. I’ve been training hard and I’m ready to put on a show. I really don’t care what Johnny thinks or says. I only care about what I want to do, which is knock him out — and knock him out quickly.
