[Breaking] Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz set for UFC 196 following RDA injury

Conor McGregor

The UFC has found a replacement for Rafael dos Anjos who today pulled out of his bout with Conor McGregor at UFC 196 as Nate Diaz steps in on short notice to face McGregor.

UFC officials confirmed the new fight on Tuesday.

Many opponents were considered for McGregor.  Diaz, however, ended up as the best choice, and now he’ll get the chance to face McGregor at UFC 196 next weekend. The fight will take place at welterweight with Diaz accepting the fight on short notice and McGregor happily accepting the move to 170 pounds.

McGregor was scheduled to attempt to make history by facing dos Anjos. If McGregor had won the bout, he would of been the first UFC fighter in history to hold two belts in two different weight-classes simultaneously.

UFC 196 is an upcoming mixed martial arts event that will be held on March 5, 2016 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Following his last at UFC on Fox 17 on December 19, 2015 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida against Michael Johnson, Diaz called out McGregor.  Now, he has his wish.

With this announcement, UFC 196 now looks like this.
