We’re about a month out from CES MMA 33, where I fight Keith Bell at Twin River Casino, March 11 on AXS TV, and I couldn’t be more excited.
I used to get nervous, but now I just get excited heading into my fights.
A lot of that comes from maturity and a lot of that is from preparation — I train at the best gyms and have the best coaches and training partners, so I’m not in for any surprises on Fight Night.
Two of those training partners — Chuck O’Neil and Juliano “Banana” Coutinho — are also scheduled to fight at CES MMA 33, so we’re all pushing each other and peaking at just the right time. It’s always a lot better to train when other guys have fights on tap, even though most of my teammates don’t take time off unless they’re injured.
A lot of my calmness too comes from the fact that I’m always training. So instead of having to ramp my training up a month leading up to Fight Night, I’m almost starting to taper off as I enter the final stages, in great shape and ready to rumble.
“Taper off” isn’t the right phrase, but nothing really changes when I’m a month out — I’m still working on everything and, as always, I’m trying to push myself to the limit every session.
I’m feeling better than ever and I can’t wait to weigh in, fight, have my hand raised, celebrate a little, sign that next contract and take the next step in my career.
