A middleweight bout has been added to UFC 197 as #8 ranked Robert Whittaker will take on Rafael Natal who is currently ranked #12 in the UFC’s middleweight division. The Daily Telegraph broke the news.
UFC 197: Cormier vs. Jones 2 held on April 23, 2016 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is expected to be headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship rematch between current champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones.
Whittaker (15-4 MMA) has looked impressive since moving up a weightclass from welterweight to middleweight. A ‘Fight of the Night’ 185lb TKO debut win over Clint Hester was followed up with a KO ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus win over Brad Tavares at UFC Fight Night 65. In his most recent bout, Whittaker dominated Uriah Hall on route to a unanimous decision win at UFC 193.
Natal (26-6-1 MMA) is riding a four fight winning streak including three decision wins over Chris Camozzi, Tom Watson and Uriah Hall. ‘Sapo’ last fought a couple of weeks ago at UFC on FOX 18, where he would run out a TKO winner over Kevin Casey.
With this fight addition, UFC 197 now looks like this:
