Round 1:

No shortage of action in this one. All stand-up. Both guys have landed clean, but neither rocked their opponent. The power and accuracy is impressive, but not as impressive as the chins. Not a bit of grappling in the first and no surprise why. But this was a very close round. I may give a slight edge to Ferreira, but it certainly wasn’t decisive.

MMA Mad scores the first round 10-9 Ferreira.

Round 2:

More of the same in the second. These guys are so evenly matched. High volume and accuracy from  both guys and when the tempo starts to turn up, both guys seem more than happy to hang in the pocket and swing away. If it wasn’t for the impressive chins on these guys, I would be sure this would end in a knockout. But I’m honestly not sure.

With one minute left, Aubin-Mercier seems to have rocked Ferreira, but he recovers almost immediately. Still, it’s probably enough to edge out another close round.

MMA Mad scores the second round 10-9 Aubin-Mercier (19-19 overall).

Round 3:

I think this is very much anybody’s fight at this point. Who’s going to steal a decision in the third. Both guys seem well aware of this and are pushing for the finish. Aubin-Mercier pursues the takedown but it’s immediately reversed by Ferreira who winds up on top. Wow! A brilliant transition as he jumps over the legs of Olivier and gets full mount. Now the back. He’s got some time to work and keeps attempting to sink in the RNC, but to no avail.

Two minutes left, and Diego is back on top. He’s working some ground-and-pound and really smothering the Canadian. Dominant round from Ferreira, who should take this one on the scorecards.

MMA Mad scores the third round 10-9 Diego Ferreira (29-28 Ferreira)

Official Result: Diego Ferreira def. Olivier Aubin-Mercier via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
