UFC 196 moved from PPV to Fox Sports 1, Hendricks vs. Thompson new 5 round main event

UFC 196 was left in tatters earlier this week as Cain Velasquez (back) and then Fabricio Werdum (foot and back) both pulled out of their title fight. With no replacement options on the table UFC 196 is being taken off of pay-per-view and made into a Fox Sports 1 card. Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports reported the news.

UFC 196 will be held on February 6, 2016, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show will be headlined by a welterweight bout between former champion Johny Hendricks and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

On Sunday, UFC president Dana White announced on Twitter that Velasquez was out of the fight due to a back injury and Stipe Miocic would step up. A day later, Werdum pulled out of UFC 196, because he wasn’t comfortable with the opponent change while dealing with injuries of his own.

With this change, UFC 196 now looks like this:

Main Card (Fox Sports 1)
Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson
Roy Nelson vs. Jared Rosholt
Ovince Saint Preux vs. Rafael Cavalcante
Joseph Benavidez vs. Zach Makovsky
