Boston, Massachusetts: Ed Herman survived the power of Tim Boetsch long enough to land a perfect knee and emerge victorious in his first fight at 205 lbs.
UFC Fight Night 81 was held on January 17, 2016 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Tim Boetsch vs. Ed Herman took place on the preliminary portion of the card which aired on FOX Sports 1.
Round 1: Both men began exchanging punches almost immediately after the round began. Herman kept his punches straighter, while Boetsch was coming over the top with looping shots. Boetsch stunned Herman for a moment, backing him up to the fence, but couldn’t land anything to keep up the momentum. He began to sprinkle in kicks around the midway point of the round and controlled the center of the cage. Herman tried to push his way into a clinch, but ate some uppercuts for his troubles and backed off. He was eventually able to get inside and pull off some dirty boxing and land some hard knees, but Boetsch took them well and landed some good shots of his own after breaking away. Boetsch was trying to catch Herman coming in, but would initiate the exchanges when Herman didn’t throw. Both men opened up in the final 30 seconds, but the round came to an end.
Round 2: Herman tried moving forward as the 2nd round started, but Boetsch evaded him easily and attempted to strike. Ed was staying patient, though, and was able to land punches on his way into a clinch against the cage. Herman latched onto a Muay Thai clinch and landed a huge knee that dropped Boetsch to his knees! He landed a few more punches and the ref jumped in!
Official Result: Ed Herman def. Tim Boestch via TKO (knee, punches) Round 2, 1:39
Herman moves to 23-11 after winning his Light Heavyweight debut and knocked Tim Boetsch down to 18-9.
