Boston, Massachusetts: Patrick Cote used devastating clinch strikes to finish Ben Saunders in the second round. Since his return to the UFC, Cote has only dropped two out of his eight bouts.
UFC Fight Night 81 was held on January 17, 2016 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Patrick Cote vs. Ben Saunders took place on the preliminary portion of the card which aired on FOX Sports 1.
Round 1: Both men square off, looking to find range. Saunders opens with a pair of body kicks. Cote fires back with a leg kick and a body strike of his own. Saunders eats a few more leg kicks, but is using his range advantage to control the pace. Saunders engages in a clinch and trips Cote into full guard. Saunders lands some limited ground and pound, but Cote is controlling well with a closed guard. Cote is threatening with submission attempts as Saunders continues to keep busy with body shots. At 1:30 Cote throws up his legs and uses an armbar attempt to get top position. Cote is landing good punches to the head of Saunders. With seconds left, Cote continues to land heavy ground and pound.
Round 2: Cote misses with a leg kick and eats a body strike from Saunders. ‘Killa B’ pushes forward and lands another body kick with a followup right straight. Cote opens up with a left right combination and engages in a heavy clinch afterwards. Cote starts unloading heavy left uppercuts and Saunders is unable to reply, falling to the canvas. Saunders is unable to defend himself, and the referee is forced to call a stop to the fight.

With the win, Cote advances to 23-9 as Saunders drops to 19-7.
