The oddsmakers have Holly Holm a huge favourite over next title contender Miesha Tate, a 4-1 favourite.
It was announced yesterday by Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report that Miesha Tate has earned the next shot at Holly Holm for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship, in favour of former champion Ronda Rousey.
Holly Holm will make her first women’s bantamweight title defence against Tate at UFC 197.
UFC 197 will be held on March 5, 2016 at a venue TBA in Las Vegas.
Holm (10-0 MMA) shocked the world when she knocked out Ronda Rousey with a head kick at UFC 193 in November. The UFC wanted Holm to face Rousey in an immediate rematch at UFC 200 in July, however ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ wanted to stay active during Rousey’s absence and it looks like the UFC granted the champion her wish.
Tate (17-5 MMA) was promised a title shot against Rousey before Holm was prefered at UFC 193. Tate has been on a warpath since falling to Rousey at UFC 168. After running through Liz Carmouche, Rin Nakai, Sara McMann, and Jessica Eye, Miesha’s been screaming for a title shot for some time now. Many were surprised when Holly Holm was picked over Tate for a December title shot, but it looks as if that oversight will be corrected by March.
