Joseph Benavidez vs. Zach Makovsky added to UFC 196 in Las Vegas

A key flyweight bout has been added to UFC 196’s lineup as Joseph Benavidez and Zach Makovsky have been matched at 125lbs. The Las Vegas Review Journal first reported the news.

UFC 196: Werdum vs. Velasquez 2 will be held on February 6, 2016 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is expected to be headlined by a UFC Heavyweight Championship rematch between current champion Fabrício Werdum and former champion Cain Velasquez.

Benavidez (23-4 MMA) is riding a four fight winning streak and is currently ranked #1 in the UFC flyweight division. A submission win at at UFC 172 over Tim Elliott was followed by three unanimous decision wins over Dustin Ortiz, John Moraga and Ali Bagautinov.

Makovsky (19-6 MMA), the former Bellator bantamweight champion, is 3-2 since joining the UFC. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to contender John Dodson in May.
