As reported by Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight, Joanne Calderwood is looking to change camps in 2016, with a focus on the famed Montreal gym headed by Firas Zahabi.
Tristar is home to former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre and a slew of top contenders including Rory MacDonald, Tom Breese, and Joseph Duffy. Calderwood is on her way to Montreal to give the gym a “four week trial”. If it proves to be a good fit, she is open to the idea of permanently relocated to Tristar, with hopes that the move will help her reach her full potential as a mixed martial artist.
To be fair, JoJo hasn’t exactly been struggling to this point. Outside of a submission loss to Maryna Moroz back in April of 2015, her professional record is spotless. She recently put on a Fight of the Night worthy performance against Cortney Casey in her home country of Scotland, improving to 2-1 under the ZUFFA banner.
When pressed about who she wants to fight next, Calderwood was fairly coy, stating that she would fight anyone. However, she did express an interest in rematching Rose Namajunas, the fighter who knocked her out of The Ultimate Fighter competition.
Namajunas won the first match with a second round kimura, but both fighters were awarded Fight of the Season honors for their back and forth war.
