Las Vegas, Nevada: Sheldon Westcott had an easy night of work in the Octagon as he was able to secure a takedown early and pound Edgar Garcia out in Round 1.
UFC 195 took place on January 2, 2016 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Edgar Garcia vs. Sheldon Westcott took place on the preliminary card which aired on UFC Fight Pass.
Round 1: Westcott started things off with a jab and some kicks that backed Garcia up a tad. Westcott shot in for a takedown about 45 seconds into the round, and was able to secure it. He wrapped Garcia’s legs up as he slowly moved forward towards mount, landing punches along the way. Garcia was forced to give up his back, allowing Westcott to continue to land on him while searching for a submission opportunity. Westcott eventually decided to concentrate on the GnP, forcing Garcia to cover up along the fence. After seeing Westcott land a high volume of punches, the referee stepped in and called a halt to the action.

Westcott improves to 9-3-1 with the victory, while Edgar Garcia is now 14-5-0.
