Francis Ngannou displayed some dangerous striking ability in the heavyweight division on Saturday, as he knocked out his opponent with a hard-hitting, second round uppercut.
UFC on Fox : dos Anjos vs. Cerrone 2 took place on Saturday, December 19th live at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira vs. Ngannou took place on the early preliminary card, live on Fight Pass.
Ngannou started off the fight with a strong leg kick but was immediately taken down by Henrique as a result. Henrique threw some limited ground and pound while sitting in Ngannou’s full guard. Half way into the first round, Henrique passed into side guard and continued to look for submission opportunities. With little action occurring, the ref stood both men up, with Henrique going for a takedown as an immediate followup. Unable to get double-leg, both men had to reset in the middle of the cage, with Ngannou landing some big shots before the round came to an end.
With the second round beginning, Ngannou cornered his opponent and unloaded some good combinations. Henrique, absorbing the shots, was forced to go for another double leg against the cage in order to avoid further damage. At the three minute mark, the ref reset both athletes as Henrique was unable to do anything in the cage-clinch situation. Ngannou pushed away his opponent shortly after, and started unloading more boxing combinations. As a followup, an extremely hard left uppercut connected and Henrique was left unconscious, at 2:53 in the second round.
With the win, Ngannou is successful in his UFC debut and moves up to 6-1. Henrique Barbosa de Oliveira falls to 8-2.
