The new UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is wasting no time in trying to select his next opponent. Rockhold told Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight that he wants to host the Vitor Belfort retirement party at UFC 200.
Rockhold (15-2 MMA) defeated Chris Weidman this past weekend via TKO in the fourth round to become the new UFC Middleweight champion at UFC 194. UFC 194 was held on December 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Following the win, Rockhold turned his attention straight to the man who handed him his only loss inside the octagon, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort.
Belfort (25-11 MMA) defeated Rockhold via KO on May 18, 2013 at the Arena Jaraguá in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil in a headlining bout, however Vitor Belfort was using TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) at the time, which is now banned under the new USADA guidelines.
‘The Phenom’ however just lost a UFC middlweight title fight to former champion Chris Weidman and it is widely regarded that he does not deserve another shot at the title at this moment in time. Yoel Romero defeated Jacare Souza on Saturday night at 185lb which was unofficially a number one contender fight.
