Las Vegas, NV- The movement and combinations of Tecia Torres were too much for Jocelyn Jones Lybarger to overcome in her UFC debut.
UFC 194 was held on December 12, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tecia Torres vs. Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger took place on the preliminary portion of the event.
Jones-Lybarger was the one pressing the action shortly after the fight ensued. She took the center and tried to walk Torres down. She wasn’t landing much, though, and Torres began to find her range with a nice leg kick and a good combo. Torres started to catch Jones-Lybarger as she was coming in and was landing hard. It wasn’t long before Jones-Lybarger started to appear hesitant and basically just stand in front of Torres. She finally tried to clinch and pushed Torres back, but found herself reversed and ended up with her own back against the cage. Torres threatened with takedown attempts and landed a few short shots before the round came to an end. Torres looked to have taken the 1st easily.
Jones-Lybarger went back to pressing forward at the beginning of the 2nd, but Torres once again landed some decent shots on her. Jones-Lybarger had to go to the clinch to avoid the shots. This time she was successful in pushing Torres to the fence, but was eventually turned around again. Torres pull out of the clinch, but leaped in with a good shot immediately after. After a brief moment, however, Jones-Lybarger once again went for a clinch and took the action back to the cage. She failed to take advantage, though, and soon found herself eating more punches right before being taken down by Torres. Torres landed in half-guard and started to work with about 1 minute left in the 2nd round. The round ended on the mat, again seeming to go to Torres.
More circling from Torres to start the 3rd and final round. Jones-Lybarger was in need of a finish and tried to throw some mean shots, but she continued to have issues landing anyting of substance. Torres, on the other hand, was still landing a good amount of combos. She was catching Jones-Lybarger over and over again as she attempted to close the distance. Jones-Lybarger attempted a takedown, but to no avail. Torres picked up the pace after defending the attempt and landed several stiff shots that seemed to have Jones-Lybarger reeling for a moment. With less than a minute left, Jones-Lybarger found herself pressed against the cage. She was busted up by now, but it didn’t stop her from landing some good shots of her own right before the end of the bout. It looked to be to late, though.
The judges handed Torres the decision victory with scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
Tecia Torres fought her way to a 7-0 record, handing Jones-Lybarger her second loss and pushing her down to 6-2 overall.
