Las Vegas, NV | Chris Gruitzemacher displayed true tenacity and aggression on Friday, taking a unanimous decision victory over his opponent Abner Lloveras, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.
The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale will be held on December 11, 2015 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. Chris Gruitzemacher vs. Abner Lloveras took place on the preliminary card which aired on Fox Sports 1.
As the fight between the two TUF contestants began, Gruitzemacher opened up the aggressor, with low kicks plodding forward and putting on heat. Lloveras landed some nice counters, and at the four minute mark threatened briefly with a takedown. Both athletes traded well in the first round, with Lloveras taking an advantage in the clinch for some time. Half way through the first round, Lloveras appeared to take control, despite Gruitzemacher putting forward pressure throughout. Gruitzemacher lands a nice uppercut at the one minute mark and takes the legs out of Lloveras briefly.
The second frame saw much of the same, with Lloveras continuing to back-peddle and counter off the aggression of Gruitzemacher when he could find the opening. Lloveras is opened up with a minute into the round and looks to grapple, taking the back of Gruitzemacher while standing. The attempt ultimately fails and Gruitzemacher opens up another cut on his opponent, just above the first. The Arizona native throws a nice spinning backfist and is beginning to unload with ease on Lloveras. Gruitzemacher finished the second frame strong and definitely began to take over.
Lloveras shot with a double leg early in the third, and after briefly taking the guard, Gruitzemacher reverses the situation and pushes forward on his feet. A minute later, Lloveras lands another takedown but is unable to hold down his foe. Gruitzemacher took a much more clinch-heavy approach in the third, throwing short jabs and uppercuts with impressive endurance. Lloveras is still hunting for takedowns with half way through the fight, but Gruitzemacher continues to stand back up. Both men ended the fight trading at the center off the cage. A conclusive third round for Gruitzemacher, and a choice match overall to open the card.
With the victory, Chris Gruitzemacher moves up to 13-1, with Abner Lloveras dropping to 19-8-1.
