Las Vegas, NV | Thiago Santos needed a strong third round to lock up the scorecards and he does just that, defeating a game Elias Theodorou
UFC Fight Night 80 will be held on December 10, 2015 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Elias Theodorou vs. Thiago Santos took place on the main card which aired on UFC Fight Pass.
After a long break due to all the early stoppages, we’re back into things with the main card. Both of these guys are more than capable of ending things… it’s all about finding that opportunity.
Theodorou is mixing it up with a WIDE variety of combinations and entries. Now Santos follows suit, hitting Theodorou with some spinning attacks. This is one heck of a kicking display, and it’ s a difficult round to score. I’d have to give it to Theodorou for the aggression and pace, but he didn’t run away with it. This leads up to a crucial second round.
Santos opens the second round with a plethora of leg kicks, likely an attempt to slow down the range attacks of Theodorou. It works temporarily, but a chaotic exchange ends with a takedown for Theodorou. They get back to the feet and Theodorou clinches for a bit, but Goddard ultimately separates them. Before long, Theodorou clinches and lands one last take down, likely winning the second round as well. But its CLOSE.
This is still anyone’s fight heading into the third. It’s all about digging deep and finishing with a flurry. And it seems like Santos is the one answering that call. Huge, dominant round for the Brazilian, who closes out strong and CLEARLY wins the third. It comes down to the first couple rounds. If you score it as one big round, it should go to Santos. But breaking it up round-by-round, I have no idea…
