Las Vegas, NV | Kailin Curran gets her first UFC victory via slick submission.
UFC Fight Night 80 will be held on December 10, 2015 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kailin Curran vs. Emily Kagan took place on the preliminary card which aired on UFC Fight Pass.
Strawweights tend to steal the show. And while this one has some serious competition in the ensuing main event, both Kagan and Curran are extremely capable of lighting up a crowd, even when it’s a small one.
We saw a back-and-forth affair from the start. Curran scored a takedown; Kagan scrambled back to the feet. Kagan scored a takedown; Curran scrambled back to her feet. With one minute left in the first round, we saw our first burst of action from Curran. As the superior striker, she’s going to want to implement a lot more than this, but Kagan is clinching to neutralize, and doing it well.
Curran may have taken the first round with that one brief exchange, but it certainly wasn’t a runaway round for either fighter.
The second round looked like a completely different fight. Curran established some distance with the jab, and rather than fight through it with the clinch, Kagan began throwing back. The crowd appreciates the action, but Kagan looks very gassed now. Still, she’s throwing with volume.
And just like that, Curran gets the rear-naked choke finish. A takedown… then one hook… then two… and she slipped it under the neck. Great finish; the first UFC victory for the 24 year old.
With the win, Curran improves to 4-2, while Kagan falls to 3-3.
Official Result – Kailin Curran def. Emily Kagan via rear-naked choke (Rd.2, 4:14)
