BAMMA HW Champion Mark Godbeer injured; out of Rizin FF Grand Prix Tournament


Rizin FF have this morning announced that BAMMA Heavyweight champion Mark Godbeer is out of the Grand Prix tournament on December 29 at Saitama Super Arena, Japan.

A Rizin FF representative announced the news which was followed by a report from MMA Plus’ Andreas Georgiou.

If healthy, Godbeer would have fought the former Strikeforace Light Heavyweight champion and currently Bellator MMA competitor Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal in the quarter finals. The report did not include any information regarding the injury of the BAMMA hevayweight champion who withdrew from his fight title defence at BAMMA 23 earlier this month to compete on the NYE tournament in Japan.

The opening round of Rizin’s heavyweight grand prix will be contested during the first of the company’s events on Dec. 29, with the semifinals and finals taking place on New Year’s Eve. The winner of the bracket takes home a grand prize of $500,000.
