Bellator 146 ||Guilherme Viana dominates Houston Alexander en route to a doctor stoppage

Thackerville, OK- Houston Alexander was completely outclassed by Guilherme Viana’s striking before being saved by the doctor between the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Bellator 146: Kato vs. Manhoef will take place November 20, 2015 at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. The event will air live in prime time on Spike TV.

Viana is much taller than Alexander and was obviously trying to keep this fight on the outside at the beginning.  Strangely, Houston was trying to work a jab early, but Viana made him pay almost every time he made the attempt.  Houston was wobbled two minutes in, and taken down shortly after.  Viana let him back to his feet and continued to land more effective strikes.  Houston was looking befuddled and hurt.  He couldn’t get much going in the way of offense.  It looked as if Alexander may have been recovering, but Viana was hurting him every time he landed.  Blood started running from Alexander’s face with around a minute left in the frame.  Houston survived the onslaught long enough to see a second round, but he was clearly outgunned by Viana from the start of the contest.

It didn’t take long for Viana to go back to work and land a huge left on Alexander that sent him to the canvas.  Alexander had a brief defensive takedown, but couldn’t hold it, allowing Viana to land even more punishing blows that once again sent Alexander crashing down.  Houston gave up his back in an attempt to get back to his feet, but Viana tripped him back down and began looking to maybe set up a submission.  He only had a single hook, however, and eventually decided to concentrate on landing some hammerfists.  Alexander was bleeding badly from under his left eye as he struggled to stand up.  He finally popped back up, but was still desperately behind at this point in the fight.  Viana took this opportunity to pump his jab and circle, as it seemed he might have been tiring from dishing out so much punishment, but couldn’t get the finish.

Fortunately for Viana, however, the doctor had seen enough and stopped the bout between the 2nd and 3rd round due to multiple cuts on Houston Alexander’s eyes.  Guilherme dominated from the opening bell and never allowed Alexander to get in more than just a minuscule amount of offense.

Viana is now 7-2 while the veteran Alexander drops to 16-13-1.
