Melbourne, Australia: Jared Rosholt secured a hard fought three round decision over Stefan Struve tonight in Australia.
UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm was held on November 15, 2015 at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Stefan Struve vs. Jared Rosholt took place on the main card which aired on PPV in the United States and BT Sport in the UK.
As the fight began, Struve walked down his opponent Rosholt, but largely no striking exchanges occur for the first two minutes of the fight. Rosholt lands a takedown half way into the first, and is controlling Struve from side control, landing elbows. Struve scrambles but he is unable to shake off the American wrestler. Rosholt cannot land much in the way of ground and pound due to Struve’s effective grappling defense.
During round two, Rosholt threatened with more takedowns, and Struve seemed unable to pull the trigger. Once again, half way into the round Rosholt scores a takedown and lands in side control. Struve manages to sweep but is immediately taken down once more. Rosholt controlled the majority of the second with his grappling, but there is very limited damage being delivered.
Struve looked stronger in the third, delivering better strikes and forcing Rosholt to circle away and go for more takedown attempts. Knowing he had the fight in the bag, Rosholt avoids all striking exchanges; as a result the Australian crowd was largely displeased. Regardless, a solid display of grappling for Rosholt who continues to advance up the heavyweight ladder.
With the decision, Rosholt sits at 14-2 as a heavyweight. Stefan Struve moves back down the rankings, now 26-8.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
