Melbourne, Australia: Jake Matthews put a very heavy beating on his opponent Akbarh Arreola after absorbing heavy head kick damage in the first round.

UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm was held on November 15, 2015 at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Jake Matthews vs. Akbarh Arreola took place on the preliminary card which aired on Fox Sports 1 in the United States and BT Sport in the UK.

After some tentative striking and finding their range, the fight became interesting at the two minute mark, wherein Arreola landed a vicious head kick, dazing Matthews and sending him to the canvas. Arreola controlled Matthews from the back, landing heavy strikes and threatening with the submission choke. With twenty seconds left in the round, Matthews escapes to top control, landing heavy hands and elbows.

Into the second frame, Matthews landed a takedown immediately and began controlling his opponent from full guard. Landing heavy elbows and cutting up Arreola, Matthews looked very strong despite taking damage in the first round. Nearly five minutes of brutal ground and pound and Akbarh Arreola has sustained some serious swelling damage to his face; the fight is called off in between rounds and Jake Matthews scores a TKO stoppage victory.

With the victory, Jake Matthews is back to winning ways and progresses to 9-1. Akbarh Arreola is now 23-10 as a professional and has dropped back to back fights under the UFC.
