Melbourne, Australia: Holly Holm is now the second UFC women’s bantamweight champion in history, after a stunning upset knockout over Ronda Rousey.
UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm was held on November 15, 2015 at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm took place on the main card which aired on PPV in the United States and BT Sport in the UK.
Right off the bat, Rousey stalks Holm, forcing the challenger to go on the defensive. Holm connects with a few counters but eventually Rousey gets the clinch against the cage. The bout resets as Holm escapes and both women are back to exchanging in the center of the Octagon. Holm escapes a takedown and armbar attempt, an impressive feat considering her opponent. Holm is landing strong counters as Rousey continues to push the pace. The first frame ends with Rousey bloodied from a collection of counter shots.
Rousey opens the second round with her same aggression, but Holly Holm is landing strong counters and Rousey is stumbling, looking very battered. A series of combinations and a brutal head kick sends Rousey falling to the canvas and the fight is called off 59 seconds into the second round.
Ronda Rousey drops to 12-1 as a professional, with Holly Holm moving up as a 10-0 undefeated and new bantamweight women’s UFC champion.
