On June 26, UFC veteran Josh Koscheck signed a deal to fight under the Bellator MMA promotion and was scheduled to fight on the Bellator 147 fight card however no opponent had been named. MMA Mad can now officially reveal that Koscheck will take on Matthew Secor in his debut contest.
Koscheck fought 25 times in the Octagon and once challenged Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title. The American Kickboxing Academy product had memorable battles with many of the elite at 170 pounds, scoring wins over top competitors Diego Sanchez, Anthony Johnson and Matt Hughes, but has not had his hand raised in victory since toppling Mike Pierce at UFC 143 more than three years ago forcing the UFC to release him.
Secor (7-2 MMA) is riding a three fight winning streak spanning two organisations. Two wins under the WSOF banner over Brett Shoenfelt (submission) and Chip Moraza-Pollard (unanimous decision) were followed by a debut Bellator win over Jeremie Holloway (submission) at Bellator 144.
MMA Mad has confirmed the report with a source close to the situation however Bellator have yet to confirm the bout agreement. The orignal report from MMA Mad stated that the bout was scheduled for Bellator 147 however we have confirmed that the bout is currently taking place on a Bellator card being held on January 29, 2016 in Fresno, CA which is also unconfirmed by Bellator.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
