São Paulo, Brazil – Viscardi Andrade controlled Gasan Umalatov in the stand-up game for the majority of the contest on his way to earning a unanimous decision victory.
UFC Fight Night 77 was held on November 7, 2015 at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. Viscardi Andrade vs. Gasan Umalatov took place on the preliminary portion of the card which aired on UFC Fight Pass.
Andrade was the aggressor in the opening minutes, landing good punches and kicks to Umalatov while pushing forward and controlling the Octagon. Umalatov looked to be slowing down by the time the 1st round came to an end.
The Russian looked to be more offensive going into the 2nd round, but still couldn’t avoid his Brazilian opponent’s combos. Andrade kept finding ways to land and seemed to have Umalatov hurt just as the bell sounded to end the middle stanza.
Umalatov knew he was down on the cards going into the final round, and came out looking to get the finish. He landed a nice spinning kick to Andrade’s head in the first minute of Round 3, but couldn’t capitalize. Andrade recovered quickly and answered with more hard punches and good knees to the body. Andrade was beginning to slow, but was still in control until Umalatov placed a heavy right hand on his jaw, forcing the Brazilian to pull guard in the final 30 seconds. Umalatov couldn’t land the finishing blow, however, and dropped the unanimous decision via scores of 30-27 twice, and 29-28.
Viscardi Andrade moves to 18-6 with the decision victory, while Gasan Umalatov goes to 15-5-1 after suffering consecutive losses in the UFC.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
