São Paulo, Brazil -Matheus Nicolau Pereira rolled in the opening bout of the evening with an impressive submission victory against Bruno Korea in his UFC debut.
UFC Fight Night 77 was held on November 7, 2015 at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. Bruno Korea vs. Matheus Nicolau Pereira took place on the preliminary portion of the card which aired on UFC Fight Pass.
Pereira was had very little issues with Korea for the majority of the contest. He was controlling the stand up early before getting a takedown and holding Korea on the mat for the remainder of Round 1. In fact, the most effective offense Korea was able to muster for the first half of the fight was an illegal upkick delievered to Pereira while he had one knee grounded on the canvas. No point was deducted, however, and Korea made it back to his feet not long after the restart.
Later in the round, Korea landed his best blow of the night: a spinning switch kick that landed square on the chest of his opponent and sent Pereira crashing to the mat.

Pereira recovered quickly, though, and latched on a tight armbar that forced Korea to defend instead of look for more offense. The round ended with Pereira landing hard straight hands, allowing him to remain in control of the match.
The finish came in the 3rd after Pereira threw a heavy overhand right that caught Korea while he was attempting a flying knee. Korea fell hard to the canvas and was soon mounted by his surging opponent. It wasn’t long before Pereira trapped a leg and sunk in a submission that forced Korea to tap.
Matheus Nicolau moves to 11-1-1 with the victory, while Korea drops to 4-1 after the setback.Check out our latest podcast episode featuring Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports.
